In 2001, Architectural Properties had a vision for a small enclave of midcentury modern villas that would pay an authentic homage to this era in history while evoking an of-the-moment sensibility. We selected a quiet expanse of Old Las Palmas on the site of Lucy and Desi’s original Palm Springs Estate as a prime location. Our firm then coaxed design great Donald Wexler, A.I.A. out of retirement to head up this rare collaboration of four, three-bedroom homes. For his first project in 30 years, Wexler orchestrated both the big picture as well as the finest details now found throughout this development. In each home, Wexler’s signature clean lines combine with modern technology and upscale comforts including an infinity-edge pool and spa with a wide tanning shelf; steel-and-glass entry gates that open onto a shaded garden; a brushed metal fireplace; and eight-foot doors and windows highlighted with tall clerestories and mitered glass corners. The homes mark a return to the “golden age” and remain the only new community that carries this distinctive level of architectural significance.
